“Finca o corro of old vineyard of autochthonous castes, which makes us feel the essence of the great wines. Our collection of parcel wines put in value small old vineyards with unique and singular characteristics.”
PANORÁMICO
On the southern border of the appellation of origin, on the course of the Iregua River and in the foothills of Islallana is this wise vineyard of 0.68 ha planted in 1930, known by the local elders as “Caracuesta”.
The old “Garnachos” with their whimsical shapes and other native grape varieties, to a lesser extent, reflect the tradition and know-how of this vineyard under the care of Dionisio, a local winegrower who has been working this “Eden”for more than 70 years.
Traditional viticulture to create a magnificent fruit capable of expressing this place in a glass.
After cutting, it underwent partial destemming, 10% stemming. Fermentation was started with a foot of its own must and continued for 17 days with small daily pump-overs. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation.
The wine remained in tank for a year until it was transferred to 4 French barrels of second wine and 2 French barrels of first wine.
Ruby red, violet rim.
Very intense nose with notes of crunchy red fruit, aniseed, menthol and scrubland herbs.
The palate is fresh, tasty, long, full of crisp red fruit.
PANORÁMICO
As the local elders remember, the best vineyards of Islallana were located in the Sorzano area, where the most prized and valued grapes slept in the Tierroya area.
Tierroya is the local way in which the locals knew this area by its
“Tierra Roja” (Red Earth), characteristic of the clay-ferrous soils.
A corro (a quarter of a hectare) of Viura over 80 years old. After the grapes are harvested, they undergo a 24-hour skin maceration.
Fermented in oak for 2 months and then aged for 4 months to create a powerful, fresh and surprising wine.
Straw color.
Powerful, complex, fresh, with aromas of white fruit (pear, apple) and stone fruit intermingled with fine spicy notes and toasted oak.
Very fresh, with all the fruity notes that appeared on the nose. It has an elegant acidity that will make it last for many years.
PANORÁMICO
A blend of Garnacha grapes with a small portion of Viura grapes from a 70 year old vineyard in the Iregua Valley. Yields of approximately 2400 kg of grapes per hectare.
La Rad is located in one of the foothills of the western bank of the Iregua River, at an altitude of 670 meters, between the municipalities of Albelda de Iregua and Entrena, and with a marked Mediterranean character. It is a small vineyard over 60 years old, with clay soils and the presence of boulders in a goblet-trained vineyard (with a distance of 1.30 m x 1.30 m between vines).
Despite the virtues of this terroir, the industrial trend in Rioja viticulture did not exclude this jewel from being uprooted because of its low economic yield and low productive profitability. We were able to save this “vineyard on the verge of extinction” by working closely with the winegrower and by valuing the effort and virtues of this vineyard.
The grapes come from old Garnacha vines (which also include vines) and a small number of white Viura vines, planted several decades ago for their own consumption or to be used to acidify red wines.
Vineyard size 0.57 ha. Manual selection of bunches, destemming without crushing, maceration and whole-cluster vatting. Controlled alcoholic fermentation (temp. 24º) in 50 hl tanks. Alcoholic fermentation in 500 liter barrels.
Bright cherry of medium intensity.
Fresh aromas, sweet spices, undergrowth herbs and red fruits (cherries, strawberries and raspberries).
Long, fresh and sweet, combined with good acidity.
PANORÁMICO
This wine rediscovers the strength of Rioja’s white varieties through oxidative aging.
Around 20% of botrytized grapes and 80% of overripe white grapes were harvested.
Subsequently, the grapes are subjected to a 24hr skin maceration.
Vinified separately by varietal, it was then aged in French oak barrels.
During the course of the aging process, some of the barrels were not refilled in time, which caused the wine to evaporate during the aging process (known as the “elixir of the gods”), resulting in oxygen ingress and initiating an oxidative evolution of the wine
.
After 4 years of aging in the same barrels, the wine was transferred to stainless steel, where it was stabilized and bottled to create a unique wine in a Rioja winery.
In this way we have produced a wine with its own personality and a very different character to what white wines in the Rioja Denomination of Origin usually are.
Golden color with amber rim.
Powerful with notes of candied fruit, sweet spices, acetyldehyde and dried fruits.
Complex, saline and balanced with notes of solera, fine bitterness and a persistent retronasal phase.
